Traffic Control (Short Term Works)

This Traffic Control Course in Melbourne is designed for anyone intending to or carrying out short term low impact works on the road network, including the utilities sector, surveying industry and event workers (Non- traffic management companies) using a stop-slow bat.

This course is not suitable for anyone working directly in the traffic management industry (Traffic management businesses or its employees/contractors)

Any individual working or intending to directly work for a traffic management businesses must complete the new mandatory temporary traffic management courses (TC and TMI).  Please call for more information in regards to these new training courses. 

In acknowledgement of the dangerous nature of controlling traffic the Department Of Transport requires that students complete a refresher course every three years.

Individuals seeking work as a traffic controller / traffic management implementer for short term low impact works  are strongly encouraged to complete White Card, Traffic Control and Traffic Management.

There are no prerequisites for this course. However, please check the Selection criteria below.

Participants must be able to converse and comprehend basic English. Participants will complete language, numeracy and literacy assessments on course commencement to assess their capacity to meet language requirements.

Applicants must also have the physical capacity to meet the requirements of the unit (i.e. carry and handle the stop-slow bats and signages as required.).

It is highly recommended that you also complete RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plans to obtain work carrying out short term low impact works on the road network, including the utilities sector, surveying industry and event workers.

– Overview of OHS roles and responsibilities
– Site traffic management plans
– Hazard and risk management
– Principles of traffic controlling
– Working with road users.

The training program involves attendance and participation in an 8 hour workshop. Each workshop is facilitated by a member of our highly experienced training team in Melbourne, and includes trainer presentations, small group work and practical activities – so your participation will be required! Assessment will require satisfactory completion of a written test and a series of practical demonstrations.

In Australia, it is necessary to obtain an official traffic control ticket if you are going to be carrying out short term low impact works on the road network, including the utilities sector, surveying industry and event workers. To do so, you will need to complete a training course led by an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

A 4 hour refresher workshop is also available, and recommended every three years.

 

The course is a one day course.

This course can also be run off-site, on request of the customer. Minimum numbers do apply. Please contact one of our friendly staff should this be of interest.

What courses do you need to be a traffic controller while performing short term low impact works?
The 3 courses you must undertake to perform short term low impact works on the road network, including the utilities sector, surveying industry and event workers are white card, traffic control and traffic management. These courses CTG run consecutively and on a regular basis. The 3 courses will take you 3 days in total to complete. Once successfully completing them, you will be fully competent in a traffic control operations to gain employment straight away in  short term low impact works on the road network, including the utilities sector, surveying industry and event workers.

How much do traffic controllers get paid an Hour?
A traffic controllers salary varys depending on your company of employment. Most traffic controllers work on a casual work basis. The average base salary for a traffic controller is $33 per hour. However, what makes a traffic controllers salary attractive is when the job attracts: penalty rates, over time allowances, fuel allowances, weekend rate and union rates based on the site etc. The list goes on.

Do you need a white card for traffic control?
Individuals that sit traffic control training must submit evidence of their white card prior to sitting the course. If students undertake their white card training with CTG, we will have your statement of attainment on our system for your training.
