This package is designed for individuals who have already completed Traffic Controller (TC1) and Traffic Management Implementation 1 (TMI1) courses and are looking to advance their skills and career opportunities in traffic management.

This course in Melbourne teaches you the skills and knowledge needed to effectively perform traffic control duties, regulate traffic flow using stop-slow bats plan, implement, interpret and oversee traffic management plans on high volume roads and all Temporary Traffic Management Category 2 environments, as outlined in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.

This course designed for any individual working or intending to work directly for a Traffic Management Business.

What do you need to get started?

  • You must have completed both TC1 and TMI1 courses skill sets prior and have the required level of experience for each.

If you havent completed your TC1 or TMI1 you will need to complete those courses prior to enrolling into this course. You can enrol in our  TC1 & TMI1 combo course here. 

TC2 prerequisites are:

  • Completion of TC1 RIISS00058 – Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
  • At least 40 hours of experience as a traffic controller.

Note: the 20 hours of experience required to gain TC1 can be credited against the 40 hours experience requirement.  You only need an additional 20 hours after TC1 sign-off has been completed.

TM2 prerequisites are:

  • Completion of the TMI1 RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads (TMI Essentials); and
  • At least one month experience applying skills and knowledge relevant to the above-mentioned skill set in a temporary traffic management workplace; and
  • Providing evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management types including high speed roads or high-volume roads, and at least two of the following types:
    • pedestrian and cyclist controls
    • construction sites
    • lane closures
    • shoulder closures
    • night works
    • use of portable traffic control devices
    • motorways or freeways.

TC2 Skill Set

RIISS00059 - Traffic Controller Skill Set for High Volume Roads

Unit of Competency:

  • RIIWHS207 Control traffic on high volume roads.

TMI2 Skill Set

RIISS00061 - Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads

Unit of Competency:

  • RIIBEF301D Run on-site operations
  • RIIWHS304 Implement traffic management plans on high volume roads.

Face to Face in the classroom: 2 Days in classroom (These 2 days include both theoretical and written assessment)

Post - Course Requirements: 

  • 20 Hours job site placement performing traffic control duties with provided log book on the road type pertaining to a Traffic Management Category 2 environment.
  • Complete 3 different set-ups based on Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes relevant to their working conditions and Road type pertaining to a Traffic Management Category 2 environment.
  • Final assessment on a live job site within a 25km radius of CTG after 20 hours and 3 sets ups have been completed (Included in course price, No extra final assessment fees!) 

Note: Practical experience on the job site and final sign off must be completed within 6 months of course.

Construction Training Group has partnered with several traffic management companies, enabling us to offer students the opportunity to fulfil their required post course practical experience through these partnerships. With the possibility of further work for the right candidates.

Alternatively, students may choose to complete this requirement at their preferred workplace.

Throughout the work-placement period, learners must ensure that they supply their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes a UHF radio.

Students must provide Construction Training Group copies of the onsite Traffic Guidance Schemes and prestart- meetings used during their practical placements when attending their final sign off assessment at CTG (The Traffic Management Companies will provide you with these at completion of job placement) .
