Project Description

Traffic Control (Utility Workers)

RIIWHS205E Control traffic with stop-slow bat

This Traffic Control Course is specifically designed for individuals who use a stop/slow bat while carrying out traffic control during utility works, including but not limited to water, electricity, gas, NBN, and telecommunications projects.

Please note: This course is not suitable for individuals working directly within the traffic management industry (such as traffic management companies or their employees/contractors).

Anyone working for or intending to work for a traffic management business must complete the new mandatory Temporary Traffic Management courses (TC and TMI). Please contact us for more information about these training options.

Due to the high-risk nature of traffic control work, the Department of Transport requires students to complete a refresher course every three years to maintain their qualifications.

There are no prerequisites for this course. However, please check the Selection criteria below.

Participants must be able to converse and comprehend basic English. Participants will complete language, numeracy and literacy assessments on course commencement to assess their capacity to meet language requirements.

Applicants must also have the physical capacity to meet the requirements of the unit (i.e. carry and handle the stop-slow bats and signages as required.).

It is highly recommended that you also complete the unit RIIWHS302E – Implement Traffic Management Plans to increase your chances of gaining work in traffic control and management for utility industry projects, including water, electricity, gas, NBN, telecommunications, and more.

– Overview of OHS roles and responsibilities
– Site traffic management plans
– Hazard and risk management
– Principles of traffic controlling
– Working with road users.

The training program involves attendance and participation in an 8 hour workshop. Each workshop is facilitated by a member of our highly experienced training team in Melbourne, and includes trainer presentations, small group work and practical activities – so your participation will be required! Assessment will require satisfactory completion of a written test and a series of practical demonstrations.

In Australia, it is necessary to obtain an official traffic control ticket if you are going to us a stop/slow bat while carrying out traffic control during utility works, including but not limited to water, electricity, gas, NBN, and telecommunications projects.

A 4 hour refresher workshop is also available, and recommended every three years.

The course is a one day course.

This course can also be run off-site, on request of the customer. Minimum numbers do apply. Please contact one of our friendly staff should this be of interest.
