MSMWHS216 – Operate breathing apparatus

Our Breathing Apparatus course is design to successfully teach the knowledge and skills to operate and maintain breathing apparatus and equipment in a simulated environment. This course is suited for individuals who are required to enter confined space and operate a self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Prerequisites

There are no required prerequisites.

Selection Criteria

We require you to have a Construction Induction/White Card (completion of the unit CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or equivalent) to enrol for this unit.

We run two courses for Breathing Apparatus:

Students with Minimal or No Experienced (Beginner): We require students to hold a white card (or equivalent).

Students with Relevant Industry Experience (Experienced): We require students to hold a white card (or equivalent) and have a minimum of 3 months experience in one or more of the civil construction, telecommunication, firefighting, electrical, building maintenance and plumbing industries; and in confined spaces.

Participants will also need to pass a language, literacy and numeracy assessment to assess their capacity to meet unit requirements.

Each breathing apparatus course is facilitated by a member of our highly experienced training team in Melbourne, includes trainer presentations and practical activities – so your participation will be required! Assessment activities include a knowledge test and satisfactory demonstration of practical skills in a simulated environment. At the end of the course you’ll receive a national Statement of Attainment for Breathing Apparatus for proof of training.

Applicants will be required to complete a ”fit check” at the start of the class for mask seal against facial hair. please ensure all facial hair is removed or trimmed to ensure a mask seal prior to practical training and assessment.

Course Duration

The formal duration of the course is 1 day.

These can be run at our Rowville training facility in Melbourne or onsite.
