Load Restraint
The load restrain course includes useful information around load carrying vehicles that have the potential to cause danger to any person or property sourced from the National Transport Commission & Roads Traffic Authority. Construction Training Group’s course in Melbourne will provide you with the essential skills and knowledge around using appropriate driving methods, load shifting in transit, tie down methods, different loads and using appropriate vehicles to transit the different loads/weights.
Prerequisites/Entry Requirements
There are no prerequisites, however participants must be able to converse and comprehend basic English.

Load Restraint Course covers:
• Load Shifting
• Using appropriate driving methods when carrying weighted loads
• Load Restraint Methods (tie down methods, direct restraint methods, contained loads, blocked loads and attached loads)
• Selecting the appropriate vehicle best suitable for the type of load carried
• Positioning the load
• Recognising unstable loads
• Using dunnage (packing the load)
• Loading and unloading
• Driver responsibilities
• Applying tie-down lashings and angles
• Ropes and winches to use
• And what not to do!

Course Duration
Course Duration
2 hours – Theory and Theoretical Assessment
This course includes approximately two hours of theory training followed by a theoretical assessment.
Optional Practical Demonstration
At the client’s request, an additional practical component can be included at no cost. This requires each student to individually demonstrate the correct methods for restraining and tying down a load under the observation of the assessor.
The optional practical component generally takes an additional 1–2 hours, making the total course duration approximately 3–4 hours, depending on student numbers and site conditions.
The practical demonstration is completely optional and must be requested at the time of booking.
Where the practical component is requested, the client must provide:
- A suitable truck or utility vehicle available for the duration of the practical assessment
- Appropriate tie-down straps and load restraint equipment
- A suitable load for students to secure and restrain
Each student must be individually assessed demonstrating the correct load restraint and tie-down methods.
This course is run on demand and is available at either your site or our Rowville Training Facility. Minimum numbers apply.
