 Why Learn CPR?

Being able to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR safely is a great skill to have. In emergencies where CPR is necessary, there may not be time to wait until a doctor or medical professional arrives at the scene, but if you have the right training, you will know how to respond appropriately and perform CPR correctly in accordance with Australian guidelines, and you could help to save a life.

CPR is a combination of chest compressions and rescue breathes. Chest compressions help to keep the circulation going, continuing to carry oxygenated blood around your body, whereas rescue breathes help to inflate the lungs. Anyone can go into cardiac arrest without warning. There are factors that can make some people more high risk than others, but this doesn’t mean that cardiac arrest can’t occur in anyone, even those without previous heart conditions. This is why CPR training is important, as you will be prepared to take action if a situation ever arises.
