Please Note: As per the Skill Sets RIISS00058 - Traffic Controller Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads and RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads it is a requirement the student holds CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry  or equivalent prior.

Which means we require a statement of attainment showing the student has completed CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry  or equivalent prior to completing this course.

The physical White Card alone cannot be accepted.

Participants must be able to converse and comprehend basic English. Participants will complete language, numeracy and literacy assessments on course commencement to assess their capacity to meet language requirements.

Applicants must also have the physical capacity to meet the requirements of the unit (i.e. carry and handle the stop-slow bats and signages as required.).

Please ensure you bring your own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which should include steel-capped boots, a wide-brimmed hat and pants.

RIISS00060 – Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads

  • Overview of OHS roles and responsibilities
  • Prepare to and implement traffic management plans
  • Set up signage scheme
  • Monitor traffic flow
  • Storage and maintenance of equipment and signage
  • Controlling traffic using a stop-slow bat
  • Hazard and risk management
  • Principles of traffic controlling
  • Working/communicating with road users with the use of equipment including portable traffic control devices.
  • Close down / de-commission of a site
  • Information around Temporary Traffic Management Category environments, as outlined in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management

 

Each of Construction Training Groups courses are facilitated by an approved member of our highly experienced training team in Melbourne, and includes trainer presentations, small group work and practical activities – so your participation will be required!

Assessment will be facilitated by an approved trainer and will require satisfactory completion of the following:

  • A written Assessment
  • Practical demonstrations
  • Completion of an on the job logbook with 20 hours experience pertaining to Category 1 environments
  • Completion of 3 different setups (2 on the job and 1 at our office) based on Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes relevant to Category 1 environments in a live traffic scenario under supervision.
  • Final Sign off at Construction Training Group (This is counted as your 3rd set up and final sign off assessment). No Charge for final sign off, included in course price! 

A refresher workshop is also required every three years. If your line of work involves the need to control the flow of traffic on public roads, it is extremely important that you have all the knowledge, information and training you need to conduct the task in an efficient and safe fashion. Fortunately, quality training courses are available to provide you with everything you need for the job. In Australia, it is necessary to obtain an official traffic control ticket if you are going to be conducting traffic at any point during a construction project. To do so, you will need to complete a training course led by an approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO) like Construction Training Group.

Face to Face in the classroom: 3 Days in classroom (These 3 days include both theoretical and simulated practical activities)

Post - Course Requirements: 

  • 20 Hours jobsite placement performing traffic control duties with provided log book on the road type pertaining to a Traffic Management Category 1 environment.
  • Students are required to complete 3 different set-ups based on Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes relevant to their working conditions and road type pertaining to a Traffic Management Category 1 environment (2 supervised during job placement and the 3rd will be completed at CTG premises for final sign off)
  • Both TMI1 and TC1 Practical experience can be obtained simultaneously on the job site which performing both traffic control and management roles.
  • Final assessment will be completed at Construction Training Group after jobsite placement work has been completed. (Included in course price, No extra final assessment fees!)
  • Note: Practical set ups, 20 hours and final sign off must be completed within 6 months of course start date.

Construction Training Group has partnered with several traffic management companies, enabling us to offer students the opportunity to fulfil their required post course practical experience through these partnerships. With the possibility of further work for the right candidates.

Alternatively, students may choose to complete this requirement at their preferred workplace.

Throughout the work-placement period, learners must ensure that they supply their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes a UHF radio.

Students must provide Construction Training Group copies of the onsite Traffic Guidance Schemes and prestart- meetings used during their practical placements when attending their final sign off assessment at CTG (The Traffic Management Companies will provide you with these at completion of job placement) .

It is highly recommended that you also complete TC2 / TMI2 COMBO Course and TMI3 Advanced (Freeways) to gain the required traffic management plan implementation skills to obtain work in the Traffic Control industry.
