TLID0020 – Shift materials safely using manual handling methods
Did you know that manual handling is the biggest cause of workplace injury in Victoria? Each year, thousands of people are injured as a result of manual handling. Our Manual Handling Course in Melbourne will equip you with the skills and knowledge that you need to shift loads safely using appropriate manual handling training techniques.
This course is suited to a wide variety of work roles and industries. And also for those individuals who volunteer with organisations such as the CFA, Surf Lifesaving, and sporting clubs.
Prerequisites
There are no formal prerequisites for this course.
Selection Criteria
Basic written and spoken English is required to understand manual handling policies and procedures, Hazardous Manual handling Compliance Code and undertake the assessment tasks associated with this unit.
Participants will complete a language, literacy and numeracy assessment to assess their capacity to meet unit requirements.
Applicants must also have the physical capacity to meet the manual work requirements of the unit.

What is manual handling?
Manual Handling refers to a task that requires a person to lift, lower, push, pull, carry or otherwise move, hold or restrain any person, animal or thing.
How long does a manual handling certificate last?
Manual Handling training does not have a specific expiry date. This is up to your employer’s discretion or if see fit for renewal training. For example, some employers will re-train their staff in Manual Handling if they notice incorrect lifting techniques being used. The renewal training will ensure employees’ knowledge is current and safe.
Course duration
This highly interactive training program involves attendance and participation in a 4-hour workshop. Each workshop is facilitated by a member of our highly experienced training team in Melbourne, and includes trainer presentations, small group work and practical activities – so your participation will be required!
