RIISS00062 – Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Motorways and Freeways – TMI Advanced (Motorways)

This Traffic Control Course in Melbourne addresses the competency required to control traffic using a stop/slow bat to ensure the safety of construction and maintenance workers, and the general public. In acknowledgement of the dangerous nature of controlling traffic VicRoads requires all field personnel designated as a Traffic Controller to have completed the RIISS00058 unit, and to undertake a refresher course every three years.

Individuals seeking work as a traffic controller are strongly encouraged to complete White Card, Traffic Control (TC1) and Traffic Management Implementation (TMI1). The majority of traffic control companies will require you to hold these 3 tickets prior to obtaining any employment as a traffic controller.

  • completion of the RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads (TMI Essentials); and
  • at least three months experience applying skills and knowledge relevant to the above-mentioned skill set in a temporary traffic management workplace; and
  • providing evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 12 temporary traffic management designs including high speed roads; and at least two of the following design types:
    • pedestrian and cyclist controls
    • construction sites
    • lane closures
    • shoulder closures
    • night works
    • use of portable traffic control devices.

  • Students are required to complete required to complete 3 different set-ups based on Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes relevant to their working conditions and Road type pertaining to a Traffic Management Category 3 environment.
  • Final assessment at on live job site within a 25km radius of CTG after 3 different sets ups on job sites have been completed.
  • Note: Practical experience on the job site and final sign off must be completed within 6 months of course.
