RIIHAN308F – Load and unload plant
In a variety of operational settings, safely loading and unloading heavy machinery is a vital skill. Construction Training Group’s Load and Unload Plant course teaches participants how to plan, prepare, and carry out equipment loading and unloading according to safety standards and regulations. The course covers important knowledge areas such as interpreting load handling documentation, identifying hazards, and implementing safe work procedures for moving plant on trailers or floats, and communicating effectively with machine operators and guides.
Prerequisites
Nil. There are no prerequisites for this course
RTO Selection Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be currently working or have work experience in an operational role within one or more of the Australian industries/sectors such as civil construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, agriculture, or pharmaceuticals etc..
- Have completed a minimum of 2-months of work in such a role within the past 12 months;
- Be capable of self-directed learning and able to complete some coursework independently prior to the face-to-face course session.
Applicants must complete a self-declaration form confirming their industry experience.
Applicants must hold a current high risk work licence or operator card to operate plant and machinery such as earthmoving equipment, forklifts, or scissor lifts. Students are required to submit a copy of this licence or operator card as part of their application.
Participants must be able to speak and understand basic English and have the physical capacity to complete the course.
Key Course Information
- Legislative and safety requirements: Learn the relevant regulations, policies and workplace procedures for load and unload operations.
- Pre-start checks and planning: Understand how to review load specifications, plan the loading sequence, and inspect equipment before work.
- Risk and hazard management: Identify workplace hazards (e.g. traffic, pinch points) and apply control measures including the use of PPE.
- Loading and unloading techniques: Gain knowledge of securement methods, use of ramps or loading aids, and proper positioning of plant on transport vehicles.
- Communication and documentation: Practice coordinating with operators and completing necessary documentation for the load operation.
Upon completion, participants will have the skills and understanding needed to perform load and unload plant tasks safely and in compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Pre-learning: Required prior to attendance of face to face session.

The cost of our course is $260.00 per person (GST-free).

What will I receive after completing the course? All participants who successfully complete the training will be issued a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. There is no formal expiry on this credential, but industry practice recommends refreshing the training every 2 years to stay current.

Is this course the same as a White Card? No. The Load and Unload Plant course is separate from the construction White Card (induction) course.

Who should attend the Load and Unload Plant course? Any worker who will be involved in loading or unloading machinery – such as machine operators, transport personnel, or foremen. This training is commonly required in construction, mining, drilling and extractive industry settings.

Do I need any license or prior ticket? There is no formal prerequisite ticket for this unit.
