Project Description

Confined Space Cluster (MEGA) – REFRESHER
The Confined Space Cluster Mega Refresher is designed for workers who have previously completed confined space, permit, hazard analysis, gas testing, breathing apparatus and rescue training and need to refresh their skills and knowledge.
This course is suited to workers who operate in industries such as civil construction, infrastructure, water, sewer, drainage, utilities, maintenance, manufacturing, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, councils and emergency support settings.
The Mega Refresher is designed for workers and employers who need more than a basic confined space refresher. It refreshes all 8 units from the Mega Confined Space Cluster, including hazard analysis and permit issuing.
This course is built around practical application in simulated workplace conditions, not just theory. At successful completion, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the following units of competencies:
MSMWHS201 Conduct hazard analysis
MSMPER200 Work in accordance with an issued permit
RIIWHS202E Enter and work in confined spaces
MSMPER205 Enter confined space
MSMWHS217 Gas test atmospheres
PUASAR025 Undertake confined space rescue
MSMWHS216 Operate breathing apparatus
MSMPER300 Issue work permits
Plus a complimentary CPR Included! – See course duration section for more information.

Prerequisites
Students must hold the following units of competency before enrolling into the Confined Space Cluster Mega Refresher:
MSMWHS201 Conduct hazard analysis
MSMPER200 Work in accordance with an issued permit
Students must provide a Statement of Attainment for these units prior to enrolment.
If students are unable to provide a Statement of Attainment for the above units, we recommend completing either the Standard Confined Space Refresher or the full Confined Space Cluster Mega course.
Note:
Fire Sector Prerequisites
The following prerequisites only apply to PUASAR025 Undertake confined space rescue in relation to the fire sector.
The fire sector means sections of government departments, statutory authorities or organisations that are responsible for the delivery of firefighting and fire management services.
Individuals working within the fire sector, or individuals completing PUASAR025 as part of a fire qualification, must hold the following prerequisite units before PUASAR025 can be issued:
PUAFIR306 Identify, detect and monitor hazardous materials at an incident
PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation
These prerequisites do not apply to all students.
They only apply to students working within the fire sector, or students completing PUASAR025 as part of a fire qualification.
Selection Criteria
To successfully undertake this course, participants must:
- Have a basic level of written and spoken English
• Be able to read, interpret and complete permits, safety documentation and workplace reports
• Have basic numeracy skills to perform time calculations, gas monitoring and equipment-related tasks
• Be physically capable of entering and working within confined spaces
• Be able to safely wear and operate safety harnesses and breathing apparatus
• Have practical experience in worksite risk management, implementation of risk controls and safe work practices
- Provide proof of holding previously issued nationally recognised units of competency from any training package that cover the following topics:
- Confined space entry
- Confined space rescue
- Issuing Permits
- Gas testing
- Breathing apparatus use
OR
- Provide evidence of non-accredited training that can be verified, demonstrating clear training outcomes across all the above topics.
Participants undertaking clustered refresher training must also provide evidence of prior workplace experience in the relevant context(s) by completing a self-declaration.
In order to avoid common issues experienced around Breathing Apparatus ‘Fit Check’, students are required to make any adjustments to their facial hair prior to attending the training session at CTG. This can be achieved by clean shaving or only having facial hair which will not interfere with the fitting surfaces and parts of the breathing apparatus face mask. The correct fit of a mask requires contact with smooth skin. This makes masks unsuitable for men with beards or moustaches.

- Why do councils and water authorities prefer this course?
Councils, water authorities and utilities choose this course because it delivers complete confined space capability, not just a basic entry ticket.
This course covers:
Permit systems
Gas testing and monitoring
Breathing apparatus
Confined space rescue
These competencies are commonly required on water, sewer, drainage and infrastructure sites.
By completing this clustered course, workers can meet multiple compliance requirements in one program. This helps reduce repeat training, administration time and downtime for employers.
- How does this course reduce risk for councils and utilities?
This course is designed around real confined space hazards commonly encountered by councils, water authorities and utility workers.
These may include:
Pits
Tanks
Pump stations
Chambers
Underground assets
Training includes:
Permit based entry systems
Atmospheric testing and continuous monitoring
Breathing apparatus use
Confined space rescue procedures
This helps reduce the risk of unsafe entry, incorrect gas monitoring and unplanned rescue attempts.
- Does this course meet water authority and infrastructure site expectations?
Yes. This course was developed with industry needs in mind and reflects the expectations of water boards, councils, utilities and infrastructure asset owners.
Many sites now require workers to hold training in:
Confined space entry
Gas test atmospheres
Permit based work
Breathing apparatus
Confined space rescue
This clustered course is designed to support those site requirements in one practical program.
- Is this course suitable for council maintenance and operational crews?
Yes. This course is ideal for:
Water and sewer maintenance teams
Drainage and stormwater crews
Civil works and infrastructure teams
Mechanical and electrical maintenance staff
Emergency response and standby rescue personnel
The training recognises that participants are often experienced workers and is delivered in a practical, efficient and job relevant format.
- Why is clustered training better for employers?
Clustered training allows multiple related competencies to be completed together, rather than booking separate courses for each unit.
This can help employers achieve:
Fewer separate training days
Less time off the job
Reduced administration
Consistent training standards across teams
Improved compliance and audit readiness
For councils, utilities and contractors managing large workforces, this can result in lower training costs and stronger workforce capability.
- Why choose Construction Training Group?
Construction Training Group is trusted by councils, utilities and major contractors because we deliver practical, job relevant training, not generic theory.
Our confined space training focuses on:
Real world scenarios
Industry experienced trainers
Compliance with Victorian workplace requirements
Practical assessment
Modern equipment and facilities
Realistic confined space and rescue simulations
Employers continue to send their teams back to CTG because our training is built around what workers actually do on site.
- Is this course nationally recognised?
Yes. All units delivered as part of this course are nationally recognised.
Upon successful completion, students will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units completed.
- Do I need to be clean shaven?
For the breathing apparatus component, facial hair must not interfere with the mask seal.
A fit check is conducted on the day, and this requirement is strictly enforced. Students who cannot achieve an adequate seal may not be able to complete the breathing apparatus component.
- Will I complete practical training?
Yes. This course includes extensive hands on practical training.
Practical activities may include:
Confined space entry
Gas testing
Breathing apparatus use
Permit based work activities
Rescue simulations
The course is designed to ensure students can apply their training in realistic workplace conditions.
- How long is the ticket valid?
There is no single expiry date that applies to every workplace.
Validity can depend on employer requirements, site rules, Australian Standards and industry expectations.
Many employers and sites require refresher training every 1 to 2 years, particularly for confined space, gas testing, breathing apparatus and rescue related work.
- What happens if I do not pass?
If you are deemed not yet competent, your trainer will explain the areas that need to be addressed and the reassessment requirements where applicable.
- Why train with Construction Training Group?
Construction Training Group delivers nationally recognised training that is practical, realistic and aligned with real site requirements.
Students and employers choose CTG because we offer:
Nationally recognised training
Industry experienced trainers
Real confined space and rescue simulations
Modern equipment and facilities
Purpose built training environments
Onsite group training options
Training trusted by councils, utilities and major contractors
This course is built for people who actually work in confined spaces, not just people who need to tick a compliance box.
